Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. We collect only what is necessary to run our monthly challenge and algo-trading competition.
1. Who We Are
This site is operated by the AMS (Algorithmic & Mathematical Society) organisation. References to "we", "us", or "our" throughout this policy refer to that organisation. For questions or data requests, contact us at the email address in the footer.
2. What Data We Collect
We collect data through two distinct pathways:
We do not collect payment information, precise location data, or any data from third-party tracking scripts. We do not use cookies beyond what Firebase Authentication requires to maintain your session.
3. How We Use Your Data
Data is used solely for the following purposes:
- Challenge submissions — to receive, review, and mark your monthly solution. Your name may appear on a public results announcement if your submission is selected.
- Email address — to contact you about your submission status or, if you opt in, to send society updates. We do not send unsolicited marketing email.
- Leaderboard entries — your chosen display name and strategy performance metrics are shown publicly on the leaderboard. No email or institution data is exposed here.
- Admin access — committee members with admin accounts can view all submission data for moderation and marking purposes only.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for commercial purposes.
4. Third-Party Services
This site uses Firebase (Google LLC) for authentication, database storage (Firestore), and file storage. Data submitted through this site is stored on Firebase infrastructure and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Firebase servers are located in the United States and European Union. By submitting data you consent to this transfer.
No other third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services are loaded on this site.
5. Data Retention
Challenge submission data (including uploaded files) is retained for the duration of the current academic year and deleted within 90 days of the year ending, unless you request earlier deletion. Leaderboard entries are retained until the competition round closes.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data. For challenge submissions, note that deletion may mean your entry can no longer be marked.
- Withdraw consent at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address in the footer. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our data practices or applicable law. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
