Terms of Service

Last updated: February 2026

By using this site, including submitting solutions, participating in the algo-trading competition, or creating an account, you agree to these terms. Please read them before participating.

1. Who These Terms Apply To

These terms govern your use of this website, operated by the AMS (Algorithmic & Mathematical Society) student organisation ("AMS", "we", "us"). They apply to all visitors, registered users, challenge participants, and leaderboard entrants.

By accessing any part of this site you confirm that you are at least 16 years old, or that you have the consent of a parent or guardian.

2. Monthly Challenge Submissions

When you submit a solution to a monthly challenge you agree that:

  • The work is your own. You must not submit code or solutions written by another person or generated wholesale by an AI tool and presented as your own work. Collaboration with other participants on the same submission is not permitted unless explicitly stated in the challenge brief.
  • You grant AMS a licence to review your submission. This includes storing it in Firebase Storage, opening and reading the file, and using it for marking and internal record-keeping. We do not publish your solution files publicly.
  • You provide accurate information. Your name, email address, and institution must be truthful. Submitting under a false identity may result in disqualification.
  • Our marking decisions are final. Scores and rankings assigned by AMS internal members are not subject to external appeal, though you may contact us to discuss feedback.
  • Files must be safe. You must not upload files containing malware, exploits, or any content designed to harm systems or users. Violations will result in immediate and permanent disqualification.
Acceptable file types: Only upload files in formats relevant to the challenge (e.g. .py, .cpp, .pdf, .ipynb). Maximum file size is determined per challenge. Do not upload executables, archives with embedded executables, or files unrelated to your solution.

3. Algo-Trading Competition

The algo-trading backtester runs entirely on simulated historical data. By submitting a strategy to the leaderboard you agree that:

  • Results are simulated, not real. Nothing on this site constitutes financial advice, investment advice, or a recommendation to trade any real asset. Past simulated performance does not predict real-world returns.
  • Your display name is public. The name you enter when submitting to the leaderboard, along with your strategy name and performance metrics, will be visible to all visitors. Do not use your full legal name or any personal information you would not want publicly displayed.
  • AMS may remove leaderboard entries that contain offensive display names, that exploit bugs in the backtest engine, or that are submitted in bad faith.

4. Accounts

Admin accounts are granted only to current AMS committee members. If you have been given admin credentials you must not share them, and must use access solely for legitimate moderation and marking purposes. Committee members who leave the organisation must notify us so that access can be revoked.

There are no public user accounts on this site. Your identity is established per submission via the email address you provide.

5. Acceptable Use

You must not use this site to:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to admin routes, Firebase, or other users' data.
  • Submit automated or bulk requests that degrade site performance for other users.
  • Scrape or harvest other users' personal information.
  • Upload content that is illegal, defamatory, or infringes a third party's intellectual property.
  • Impersonate another person or organisation.

We reserve the right to block access for any user who violates these terms, without notice and without liability.

6. Intellectual Property

All site content created by AMS, including problem statements, editorial write-ups, branding, and design — is the property of AMS and may not be reproduced without permission.

You retain ownership of code and solutions you submit. By submitting you grant AMS a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, read, and use your submission for marking and internal educational purposes. We will not publish your submission publicly without your consent.

7. Disclaimers

This site is provided by AMS on a best-effort basis. We make no guarantees of uptime, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose. Challenge deadlines are enforced strictly; technical issues on your end do not entitle you to a deadline extension, though you may contact us and we will consider requests case by case.

AMS is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site, including data loss, submission errors, or reliance on simulated trading results.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms at any time. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be announced via our Discord or mailing list where possible.

9. Contact

Questions about these terms should be directed to admin@amsociety.in. For data-specific questions, see our Privacy Policy.
